Rameswaram: Four fishermen from Tamil Nadu
were injured when Sri Lankan naval personnel allegedly
attacked a group which was fishing off Katchathivu island last
night.

Fisheries department officials said Sri Lankan naval
personnel in patrol boats intercepted the fishermen off
Katchathivu (an island ceded to Sri Lanka by India in 1974),
allegedly attacked them and threw their fishing nets and
communication equipment, including Global Positioning System
in the sea.

Later the fishermen were told to leave the area, they
said, adding the injured have been admitted to a private
hospital here.

The four were part of a group of around 200 fishermen
in 50 boats who had ventured into the sea from here last
night, they said.
