Karachi: Around 5000 people on Sunday another rallied in Pakistan`s biggest city amidst heavy security arrangements to protest the anti-Islam film that has sparked angry and violent demonstrations throughout the Muslim world.
The rally was taken out by the Sunni extremist group Ahle Sunnat wa Al-Jamaat. Heavy police contingents patrolled the roads and put up containers to block many of the roads linked to the route of the rally participants and leading to the US consulate.
Police said no violence was reported from anywhere during the procession which dispersed peacefully after the participants raised slogans against the US and other western countries.
"Pakistan government should shut down the US embassy and also consulates of other western countries which have yet to ban the anti-islam film," a rally participant said.
The protesters carried banners and posters demanding death for the maker of the film and others read: "We are ready to sacrifice our lives for the honour of Prophet Mohammed!"
Senior police official Amir Lodhi said that "about 5,000 people were in the rally", adding that organisers made assurances they would not march towards the US consulate.
On September 21, when a public holiday was declared by the government to protest the film, about 14 people were killed and around 100 were injured in violent protests in the city.
