Srinagar: Hardline Kashmiri separatist
leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani was on Friday taken into preventive
custody by police when he came out of his house violating
restrictions imposed on his movement by authorities.

Police bundled Geelani into a vehicle as soon as he came
out of his house at around 12.15 pm and lodged him at police
station Humhama, official sources said.

Geelani was placed under house arrest on Sunday evening
(May 23) soon after a clash took place between stone pelting
youths and security personnel in Habbakadal area in old city.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir High Court today asked the
state government to file objections on Monday on a writ
petition filed by Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference challenging
his house arrest.
