Hasina vows to track down BDR carnage `provocateurs`

Bangladesh Premier Sheikh Hasina vowed to track down "provocateurs" of the mutiny in the paramilitary force as police said 900 border guards are expected to be charged over the rebellion.

Dhaka: On the eve of the first anniversary
of the BDR carnage that left 57 army officers dead, Bangladesh
Premier Sheikh Hasina today vowed to track down "provocateurs"
of the mutiny in the paramilitary force as police said 900
border guards are expected to be charged over the rebellion.

"We will find out the provocateurs of the gruesome
killings inside the BDR headquarters and expose them to
justice along with the killers," Hasina said, addressing a
public rally at suburban Gazipur district.

Her remarks came a day before the first anniversary of
the carnage at the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) headquarters in
Pilkhana area here.

Hasina said "whoever is found involved in Pilkhana BDR
carnage must be tried."

However, she did not indicate who could have provoked the
rebellion in which 57 army officers serving the paramilitary
force were among 74 people killed.

But, she alleged that when all the partners of the ruling
Awami League-led grand alliance joined the rescue efforts,
main opposition BNP of her archrival Khaleda Zia was not seen
at the scene.

"She (Zia) too had deserted her cantonment residence for
three days to take refuge at an unidentified location" at that
time, Hasina claimed.

Her comments came as the Criminal Investigation
Department (CID) of police said they were ready to submit the
chargesheet against the culprits of the massacre, detecting
the suspects after one year of probe.
