Karachi: A Hezbollah terrorist was on Saturday arrested in Pakistan's commercial hub of Karachi and a Kalashnikov rifle along with two hand grenades was seized from his possession, security officials have said.

Abid Bangash was arrested by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) police after an encounter in the commercial area of Tariq Road.

A Kalashnikov and two hand grenades were also seized from his possession.

CID officials said that the terrorist was wanted in connection with various bank robberies and other incidents of violence.

Bangash has been shifted to an undisclosed location for further interrogation.

The CID police last month also claimed arresting a top Taliban commander, Fazal Mehsud from the Kemari port area of the city.

Weapons were also seized from his possession. According to Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) CID Operations Fayyaz Khan, Mehsud was associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan faction.

The alleged Taliban commander was a close associate of the head of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan Baitullah Mehsud and Commander Faiz Muhammad.
