Kathmandu, July 08: India has extended an assistance
of nr 3.28 million to help promote Nepal Bhasha, the language
that belongs to Newars, the main ethnic group of Kathmandu.
Indian ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood launched the
restoration of the Nepal Bhasha Council building at Naradevi,
Kathmandu being undertaken with grant assistance of NR 3.28
million, an Indian embassy press release said.
Nepal Bhasha Council, established in 1951 with the
objective of promoting literature in Nepal Bhasha, is housed
in a 150-year old building which is in need of urgent
restoration so as to preserve an important monument to the
history of one of the rich languages of Nepal.
The project will not only help preserve this important
cultural monument of Nepal, but will also provide space for
establishing a museum and educational centre related to the
renowned Nepali poet Chittadhar Hridaya, and his works.
This project denotes the importance accorded by India to
preserving and promoting rich heritage of Nepal, which also
symbolises the strong and close bonds in the field of culture
and literature between the two close neighbours, reads the
press release.
