Kathmandu, July 08: India has extended an assistance of nr 3.28 million to help promote Nepal Bhasha, the language that belongs to Newars, the main ethnic group of Kathmandu.

Indian ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood launched the restoration of the Nepal Bhasha Council building at Naradevi, Kathmandu being undertaken with grant assistance of NR 3.28 million, an Indian embassy press release said.

Nepal Bhasha Council, established in 1951 with the objective of promoting literature in Nepal Bhasha, is housed in a 150-year old building which is in need of urgent restoration so as to preserve an important monument to the history of one of the rich languages of Nepal.

The project will not only help preserve this important cultural monument of Nepal, but will also provide space for establishing a museum and educational centre related to the renowned Nepali poet Chittadhar Hridaya, and his works.

This project denotes the importance accorded by India to preserving and promoting rich heritage of Nepal, which also symbolises the strong and close bonds in the field of culture and literature between the two close neighbours, reads the press release.
