India remains Pakistan`s top concern: NYT

Pakistan intelligence agency and army continue to consider India as "archenemy" and could be planning to use the Afghan Taliban against Indian interests in Afghanistan in the future, a leading newspaper said on Thursday.

New York: Pakistan intelligence agency and
army continue to consider India as "archenemy" and could be
planning to use the Afghan Taliban against Indian interests in
Afghanistan in the future, a leading newspaper said on Thursday.

Referring to the chief of Pakistan army, Gen Asfaq Parvez
Kayani and the Inter-Service Intelligence chief Lt General
Ahmed Shuja Pasha, the `New York Times` wrote that the duo
still consider India as their "archenemy".
"The two generals have not moved Pakistan from its
traditional strategic priorities, retaining India as the
archenemy and keeping the Afghan Taliban as proxies against
Indian interests in Afghanistan," it said.

The report said both Pasha and Kayani had followed the
"schizophrenic" policies of former President Pervez Musharraf.

"They keep the Afghan Taliban in their pocket as an
anti-India instrument and still ask for American military
equipment."

The Times report comes nearly two weeks after a
terrorist attack on Indian interests in Kabul. The Afghan
government has blamed Pakistan-based LeT for carrying out the
attacks which killed 17 people including 7 Indians.

Washington has applauded Pakistan?s recent offensives
against Taliban in the country and US officials has expressed
hope that Islamabad would turn against Taliban in Afghanistan.
Referring to various reports, the Times highlighted deep
rooted links between Taliban and ISI since the spy agency set
insurgents, also trained by the United States to fight the
Soviet Union when it invaded Afghanistan.
