Islamabad: Motorcycle-riding gunmen raided a clinic in Pakistan's port city of Karachi looking for a politician, but on not finding him shot dead his octogenarian father, a 'hakeem' who authored 40 books and was given the presidential award in 2001.

The attack took place in Federal B area on Wednesday, the Dawn reported on Thursday.

Police said the attackers failed to find the man's son, a leader of the Jamaat-i-Islami, for the second consecutive day.

Two men riding a motorbike arrived at the clinic. One of them entered, looking for politician Mujahid Barkati, but, not failing him there, shot dead 87-year-old Hakeem Mehmood Ahmed Barkati, police said.

Police said the suspects had come to the clinic on Tuesday night too, looking for the politician.
