Islamabad: Several government and military organisations, including the Inter-Services Intelligence agency, owe a state-run Pakistani power utility over Rs 7 billion, according to information provided to Parliament.
The ISI has defaulted on electricity bills worth Rs 8.2 million while the Intelligence Bureau owes Rs 2.72 million to the Islamabad Electric Supply Company, Power Minister Naveed Qamar said in a written reply to a question in the National Assembly or lower house of Parliament.
Of the government departments, Pakistan Railways was the biggest defaulter with an outstanding amount of Rs 410 million.
The defaulters included Punjab Police (Rs 134.2 million), Federal Police (Rs 19.1 million), Frontier Corps (Rs 32.5 million), Interior Ministry (Rs 1.5 million), and the Federal Investigation Agency (Rs 4.3 million).
The offices and residences of federal ministers owed Rs 8.5 million.
The Islamabad Electric Supply Company is also trying to recover Rs 26.7 billion from the private sector, according to the minister’s reply.
