ISI should have no role in Pak politics: Gilani

Yousuf Raza Gilani said the spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence should have no role in the country`s politics.

Lahore: Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza
Gilani on Sunday said the spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence
should have no role in the country`s politics.

"The ISI should have no role in the country`s politics,"
he said while interacting with reporters at his residence here
this evening.

He was responding to a question on whether the ISI`s
political wing had been closed.

"My principled stance is before you on this issue," he
said.

Recent media reports had claimed that the ISI`s political
wing had recently been closed, while the military`s media wing
ISPR denied that the spy agency had such a wing.

Politicians of various parties, especially former premier
Nawaz Sharif`s PML-N, have suspected the claim.

"It has been closed verbally, not practically," said a
politician who did not want to be named because of the
sensitivity of the matter.
