`Islamabad is next target of terrorists`

Sources said that Islamabad police were put on high alert to deal with the terrorists.

Islamabad: Islamabad could become the next target of terrorists after the acts of terrorism in the provincial capitals of Lahore and Peshawar during the current week, intelligence agencies have warned.

The intelligence agencies had warned the law enforcement agencies on July 02, 2012, that activists of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were planning to target some personalities in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

“Terrorists may cause carnage in the capital in the days to come as a group of terrorists (currently on radar of an intelligence agency) had reached to target some important personalities including politicians and members of civil society,” The Nation quoted a source, as saying.

According to the paper, some sources revealed that law enforcement agencies have reportedly taken stringent security measures to counter the plan of terrorism in the wake of the warning.

Meanwhile, sources from Islamabad police confirmed receiving warning from intelligence agencies and said that police were put on high alert to deal with the terrorists.

They said that special check posts of Rangers have been established at the Margalla Hills while patrolling of joint teams of police and paramilitary forces were being conducted round the clock.
