‘Kamra air base attackers didn`t get inside help`

A preliminary investigation report into the recent attack on the PAF Kamra has revealed that the attackers did not get any help from "insiders".

Islamabad: A preliminary investigation report into the recent attack on the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Kamra has revealed that the attackers did not get any help from "insiders".

According to the report, weapons used in the attack were Russian. The terrorists used five hand grenades and three rocket propelled grenades (RPGs), reports the Daily Times.

During the probe, investigators also collected 223 casings of AK-47 rifles from the site of attack. Two of the attackers have been identified and one of them was reported to be a resident of Taxila.

Around nine-ten militants, disguised in security forces`` uniform, had launched an armed attack on Kamra airbase in the wee hours of August 16.

The intrusion was followed by a gun-battle between security forces and assailants, which started at 2 am and continued till 6 am. Pakistan Air Force personnel and SSG Commandoes of the Pakistan Army killed eight militants.

The militants had made their way into the base from the direction of Pind Salman Makhan.

Kamra is an airbase where assembling of the JF-17 is carried out. Normally, more than 30 aircraft remain parked at the base at a time.

The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
