Karachi’s problems are ethnic, political: Malik

Human Rights Commission of Pakistan says 1,300 killings have been reported in Karachi this year.

Islamabad: Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that Karachi’s problems are both ethnic and political.

The Dawn quoted Malik as saying that a parliamentary committee is being formed to resolve the problems of Karachi, in which political parties will soon name members.

He said the government needs to work on a long-term plan to resolve the problems in Karachi.

Karachi has witnessed bloody violence in the recent weeks, leading to death of hundreds in the city.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) says 1,300 killings have been reported in the country’s biggest city this year, 490 of whom were victims of targeted killings blamed on political and ethnic tensions.
