Karzai invites Gilani for talks on reconciliation

Gilani accepted the invitation and said he would soon visit Kabul.

Islamabad: Afghan President Hamid Karzai
on Thursday invited Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to
visit Kabul for talks on the reconciliation process in
Afghanistan.

Karzai extended the invitation when he telephoned Gilani
to express his concern over the emergency landing made by the
premier`s aircraft shortly after taking off from a military
airbase in Rawalpindi yesterday.

The Afghan President "extended an invitation to the Prime
Minister to visit Kabul as the weather has become considerably
pleasant", said a statement from Gilani`s office.

Gilani accepted the invitation and said he would soon
visit Kabul.

"We would also review the progress made toward political
reconciliation in the context of the last bilateral meeting
held in Islamabad," the premier said.

Pakistan is keen on playing a larger role in the endgame
in Afghanistan.

Acting on a request from Karzai, Gilani recently appealed
to all militant factions in Afghanistan to join the peace
process in the neighbouring country.
