Colombo: At least 13 Indian fishermen were on Wednesday arrested by Sri Lankan authorities when they entered illegal into country's waters, its navy has said.

The Naval spokesman Kosala Warnakulasuriya said that the two boats were arrested north of the eastern port district of Trincomalee's Pulmodai seas around 8:30 a.m local time.

All the thirteen fishermen are currently being held in Trincomalee for further investigations, Navy said.

The Navy late last month rescued some nine Indian boats with 35 fishermen off the northern coast after they were distressed by rough weather surrounding the Tamil Nadu coast.
