Kathmandu: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, whose last visit here was abruptly cut short due to the terror attack on Lankan players in Pakistan, on Friday visited Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha in western Nepal.

Rajapaksa, who also called on his Nepalese counterpart Ram Baran Yadav here, is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and Deputy Prime minister and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala later this evening.

The Sri Lankan President had yesterday met Maoist chief Prachanda and discussed current political situation and the peace process of their respective countries.

"I appraised him of the political situation in the country," Prachanda told media persons after the meeting.

The leaders also discussed the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction process after the decades long ethnic war ended in Sri Lanka.

Security has been tightened here in the wake of President Rajapaksa's visit, who will be leaving tomorrow after concluding his three-day visit.

Rajapaksa had to cut short his visit to Nepal in March this year following a terrorist attack on the country's team at Lahore in which six players were injured.
