Kathmandu: A "lesbian" traffic policewoman in Nepal has been detained for allegedly sexually exploiting a teenage girl after keeping her in captivity for a month.

Constable Rabina Hussain of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Office is in police custody on charges of confining the 16-year-old girl to a private house for a month and sexually exploiting her during the period.

Superintendent of Police Ganesh KC said Hussain, who hails from Bara district, has been suspended and a legal action is being taken against her.

Police have not disclosed the identity of the victim.

Hussain, who was working in Thapathali Traffic Police Station, may be sent to jail if the allegation against her is proved, KC said.

The girl was released from captivity a week ago with the help of police.
