Kathmandu: Normal life has been partially affected in some districts of eastern and central Terai on Monday, in response to a bandh called by the CPN (Maoist), a breakaway faction of Maoist led by Matrika Yadav.
Yadav led CPN-M has announced an indefinite strike in Terai districts demanding the release of their cadres arrested on charges of attacking chief of Birgunj Custom Office Kewal Bhandari.
Transportation along the east-west highway has been halted due to the shut down.
Demonstrators vandalised half-dozen vehicles in Sunsari district in southern Nepal when they defied the shut down, police said.
The police have arrested three agitators from Sunsari for vandalising the vehicles.
Educational institutions also remained closed in some of the districts in Terai due to the bandh.
