Kathmandu: Madhesi parties which are a
part of the 22-party ruling alliance have denounced the Maoist
move to declare autonomous states in Nepal, saying it will
undermine the role of Constituent Assembly and derail the
peace process.

Madhesi parties including Madhesi People`s Rights`
Forum Forum - Democratic, Terai Madhes Democratic Party, and
Sadbhawana Party, all part of the coalition government, have
in a statement denounced the Maoist move.

An emergency meeting of top leaders of the three
Madhes-based parties have described declaration of autonomous
states and continued land capture by the Unified CPN (Maoist)
as a ploy against the Madhesi community and asked the former
rebels to halt such activities immediately.

The meeting has concluded the declaration of federal
states is against the agreement reached on February 28, 2008
between the government and the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi
Morcha and the Interim Constitution.

Such move not only undermines the role of CA, but
also hinders the on going peace process, MJF-L, SP and TMLP
leaders said issuing a joint statement at the conclusion of
the meeting. The three Madhesi parties have asked other
Madhes-based parties and their CA members to unite against
such move.

The UCPN-Maoist has already declared ten autonomous
states and is planning to declare three more states as part of
their third phase of agitation aimed at rectifying the
President`s move on Army chief issue in May.
