Islamabad: Stating that his ministry had already warned of possible blasts in Karachi, Pakistan`s Interior Minister, Rehman Malik said he feared similar acts of terrorism could take place in the city in the near future.
Malik said, about four days back, he had alerted the security forces about bomb blasts in Karachi on basis of intelligence reports.
He said that anti-state elements wanted to destabilize the country to create panic, reports The News.
Earlier on Tuesday, seven people were killed, including a girl child, while 22 others were injured, in twin blasts that took place near Hyderi market.
According to the Bomb Disposal Squad, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) packed with ball bearings were used in carrying out the deadly explosions.
The bombs went off within minutes of each other in the usually crowded Hyderi Market.
According to the police, the first bomb of high intensity was planted on a motorcycle while the second of low intensity was planted near a tree.
Shops in the nearby market were closed down immediately after the blasts.
The powerful blasts destroyed two vehicles and damaged several others parked nearby while window panes of the surrounding buildings were also shattered.
Police authorities have already launched an investigation into the deadly explosions.
