Peshawar: Pro-Taliban militants on Friday blew up two state-run schools in the Bajaur tribal region in northwest Pakistan, taking the number of schools destroyed in the area to 74.

Militants planted explosives in the government-run boys' primary school in Mandal area of Bajaur Agency and blew it up.

The rebels blew up another primary school at Ghundai. No casualties were reported in the attacks, officials said.

Heavy explosives were used in the attacks and both schools were razed to the ground.

Authorities subsequently arrested 25 suspects in a search operation.

Militants have blown up three schools in Bajaur Agency since educational institutions reopened earlier this week after remaining closed for 18 months due to security concerns.

In a separate incident, security personnel defused a roadside remote-controlled bomb near Khar, the headquarters of Bajaur Agency.
