Militants kill noted Islamic scholar in Pak

Militants on Friday gunned down noted Islamic scholar and Swat Islamic University Vice-Chancellor Farooq Khan and his bodyguard in northwest Pakistan, officials said.

Vice-Chancellor Farooq Khan and his bodyguard in northwest Pakistan, officials said.

Khan and his bodyguard were shot dead in Mardan, located 65 km from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa capital Peshawar. No group claimed responsibility for the killings.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani strongly condemned the assassination of Khan, describing him as a "renowned religious scholar".
