Peshawar: Two mortar shells hit a village in the mountainous Chitral district in northwest Pakistan during a reported clash between Taliban militants and NATO forces based in Afghanistan.

The mortar shells landed in Arandu village, located along the border with Kunar province of Afghanistan.

A senior police official in Arandu said the mortar shells, which were believed to have been fired by the NATO forces at the Taliban, hit an unpopulated area.

There were no reports of casualties or loss of property, officials said.
