Islamabad: Pakistan’s Senate Committee on Ports and Shipping has revealed that NATO tankers in the country are only paying 450 rupees as handling charges at Port Qasim.
The committee has taken exception to the fact that NATO tankers are free to roam in the country without paying custom duties or any form of taxes, the Dawn reports.
The committee has summoned Defence Ministry officials and others concerned with the status of NATO tankers to their next meeting.
According to the committee, these tankers have ruined the roads of the country, and therefore NATO should bear the cost of repairing them.
The committee also stated that Pakistan has incurred an annual loss of 700 billion rupees due to the Afghan Transit.
These tankers carry oil and other supplies for NATO forces in Afghanistan.
