Kathmandu: Nepal's main opposition party on Monday disrupted the Parliament, demanding Prime Minister Jhalnath Khanal's resignation over his decision to reshuffle the cabinet.

Nepali Congress (NC) has expressed strong objection over the UCPN (Maoist) decision to reshuffle its ministers in the JN Khanal led cabinet.

In place of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the Maoist central committee meeting yesterday nominated Narayan Kaji Shrestha, vice president of the party, to lead its ministerial team with the portfolio of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.

The Nepali Congress has also obstructed the Parliament meeting today demanding resignation of the Prime Minister. It was against the five point deal to nominate new ministers by the Maoist party.

In a top brass meeting of the major three political parties - CPN-UML, Maoist and NC today, the NC objected to the Maoists' preparation to change the ministers representing the party in the Cabinet.

The meeting was held at the residence of NC President Sushil Koirala in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu to discuss peace, statute and formation of a national consensus government.

Yesterday, the Maoist Central Committee had endorsed the proposal put forth by Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on peace, statute and organisational reshuffling.
