Islamabad, Dec 29: Pakistan Interior Minister Hamid Nawaz on Friday revealed that no bullet injury has been found on the body of slain Pakistani Opposition leader Benazir Bhutto and she died of head injury. Another fact, which deepens the mystery surrounding her death, is that no post mortem examination was conducted on her body.
The Pakistan Interior Minister’s statement that no bullet injury was found on her body is a complete contrast to the government statements made so far. They had claimed that 5 bullets were pumped into Bhutto’s neck and chest.
This revelation from the government, twenty-four hours after the death of the former Prime Minister comes as a shock. Questions arise as to why post mortem was not conducted on her body. The hospital shrugs responsibility by stating that there were no orders to conduct one. This sounds bizarre considering that according to normal hospital norms a post mortem is compulsory on the body of anyone who has not died a natural death.
Hospital sources said that the Pakistan government had made seven doctors sign Benazir’s medical report.
There are two other points worth pondering. First, why did the jammers not work that were always a part of her security system when the assassins attacked?
Secondly, why did the rescue team continue to pour water over blood marks, weapons and surrounding evidence much after the fire had been doused? This destroyed very vital forensic information that was available on the site and may have provided the breakthrough in the investigation.
The government meanwhile has meekly said that it has ordered a judicial probe into the matter.
