Kathmandu: At least 18 people, including 16
women, were killed on Thursday when a tractor carrying pilgrims to
famous Hindu shrine Barahkshetra fell into a canal in Sunsari
district of southern Nepal.
Half a dozen people sustained injuries in the incident,
according to the police.
The overloaded tractor fell into the mainstream of
Sunsari-Morgna Irrigation Project cannel this morning, as it
was heading towards Barahkshetra in Sunsari from Dhanusha
The pilgrims were the resident of Tarapatti-Sirsiya
village in the district. Those injured in the accident have
been admitted to BP Koirala Institute of Medical Science,
Personnel from Army, armed police force and police, have
been mobilized to carry out rescue works.
