Nepal celebrates Christmas

The Christians in Nepal celebrated the festival of Christmas by organising various programmes.

Kathmandu: The Christian community in Nepal
celebrated the festival of Christmas by organising various
programmes.

To mark the occasion, the largest Christmas tree was
installed in the United World Trade Centre, one of the largest
shopping malls in Kathmandu.

The four storey tall Christmas tree at the shopping
centre attracted thousands of visitors on Christmas Eve, where
fashion show, music programme and food festival were also
organized to mark the occasion.

Hundreds of people gathered at Assumption Church,
situated in Jawalakhel near Kathmandu and participated in
prayers.

Musical programme was organized and offerings were made
on the occasion.

In Aishworya Children`s Home (ACH) in Baluwatar where 35
orphaned children were residing, a variety of food were
prepared and children were provided with gifts by Santa
Clause.

A Christmas cake was cut and distributed to children aged
up to 13 years old.

The children participated in dancing and singing
programmes on the occasion.

"My main aim is to make these children independent and
they will be able to sustain themselves?" said Nirmala
Ghimire, in-charge of the children`s home.

Five star hotels have organized various programmes on the
occasion of Christmas with special entrance fee that attracted
a large number of gathering of people including some Hindus.
All the restaurants and night clubs were full with young
girls and boys on the occasion.
