Kathmandu: A hotelier was arrested for
allegedly raping an American woman in his hotel near
Kathmandu's tourist hub of Thamel, police said today.
Kamal Kusma (29), who hails from Bardia district in
western Nepal, was arrested for sexually assaulting and raping
the American tourist, they said.
According to the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Circle,
Kusma made the woman drink alcohol and locked her up in
a room before physically assaulting her.
Police has filed a case of rape against Kusma and he
is being kept in judicial remand.
The incident comes at a time when Nepal is observing
Nepal Tourism Year with a view to attract one million
tourists.
Thamel is under regular scrutiny of police as
criminal activities and commercial sex are believed to be
thriving in the area under the cover of tourism business.
