Baburam Bhattarai will head a 13-member delegation to the 66th UN General Assembly meeting in New York.

Kathmandu: Nepal`s new Prime Minister
Baburam Bhattarai will head a 13-member delegation to the
66th UN General Assembly meeting in New York, the first visit
abroad after the Maoist leader was elected to the top post
last month.

Bhattarai is scheduled to leave Kathmandu for New York on
September 18 accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign
Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha and other senior government
officials, according to sources close to the Prime Minister’s
office.

India-educated Bhattarai is likely to pay an official
visit to India after he returns home on September 24 from New
York, sources close to the Prime Minister said.

Soon after being elected to the top post, Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh had invited him to pay an official visit to
India.

However, the date for his tour to India is yet to be
finalised.

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yang Houlan has handed
Bhattarai an invitation to undertake an official visit to
China at an appropriate time.

57-year-old Bhattarai was elected the Prime Minister on
August 28 after weeks of wrangling among the major political
parties.
