Kathmandu: Taking exception to UN Secretary
General Ban Ki-moon's suggestion that a national unity
government should be formed in Nepal, the ruling alliance here
has said the country's people possess the right and authority
to decide what type of administration they want.
"It is up to the Nepalese people and the political
parties to decide what kind of government to form, how to form
it and under whose leadership to form it," the 22-party
alliance said in a statement after its meeting yesterday.
It said the present government has been making efforts to
accommodate all the parties and is still continuing with that.
The statement comes in response to the UN chief's
recently published report which sought to advice Nepal to form
a national unity government to move the peace process forward.
The ruling parties also called on the Maoists to join
the government, saying they were prepared to accommodate the
former rebels in the administration.
Besides calling on the Maoists to immediately stop
the blockade of parliamentary proceedings, the meeting
decided to request Speaker Subas Nembang to play a "necessary
role" to let the current fiscal year's budget pass in the
assembly.
