Kathmandu: Over two weeks after the major April 25 earthquake that devastated the nation, Nepal continues to be jolted by aftershocks as at least five tremors with magnitude over 4 on Richter Scale were recorded on Thursday.

According to Nepal's National Seismological Centre, 211 aftershocks with magnitude above 4 have so far hit the nation with most of them epicentred near Dolakha or Sindhupalchowk, the district most badly affected in the major 7.8 Magnitude quake that killed over 8000 people.

The latest tremor was recorded at 9:06 am local time with its epicentre at Dolakha.

Rumours doing the rounds that another big earthquake is going to hit Nepal have also made the people panic stricken, forcing them to stay in open spaces and not conduct any business since Wednesday morning. Schools are closed, roads are empty and very few vehicles are plying on the roads.

Markets and shops have not opened and people are afraid to resume their regular work.

Though the aftershocks of the devastating quake saw a gradual decrease in intensity and a slow return to normalcy in Kathmandu, the 7.3-magnitude tremor that shook the nation on Tuesday afternoon brought back horrifying memories of April 25 earthquake that affected over eight million people, killing over 8000 and levelling thousands of houses.
