Kathmandu: In a major turnaround, the
Nepali Congress has offered to back a re installation of a
Maoist government in the country, provided they came out with
a concrete action plan on former combatants and met other key
demands.
The offer was made by senior Congress leader and
former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba who also wanted the
former ultras to return the land and property seized by their
cadres and cease attacks against rival political parties.
Deuba also demanded that the Maoist disband the Young
Communist League, their paramilitary organisation. He said if
Maoists agree to these terms then they would seek resignation
of the present coalition government headed by Madhav Kumar
Nepal.

The Nepali Congress` proposal comes at a time when the
Maoists have intensified efforts to form a national consensus
government under their leadership by mobilising support from
smaller political parties.

Deuba also said that it was not possible to draft the
constitution without addressing the issue of integration and
rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants.

If the Maoists agree on the four pre-conditions then
we will demand the resignation from the Prime Minister, Deuba
said.
