Kathmandu: Nepal`s Finance Minister and
senior Maoist leader Barshaman Pun today said a new
constitution for the country will be promulgated within six
months as major issues linked to the peace process have
already been concluded.

"The process of integration and rehabilitation of the ex-
Maoist combatants, a major task of the peace process,
will be forwarded after regrouping of the combatants is
finalized and they would be provided with bridge course to
join the national army at the earliest," Pun said.

He said the new constitution would be promulgated within
the stipulated time frame of six months, as per the revised
schedule.

The Maoists and the main political parties have
agreed to integrate 6,500 of the 19,000 former combatants of
the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) personnel into the security
forces as part of the peace process.

Talking to mediapersons in southern Nepal`s Butwal town,
Pun said the peace process, constitution drafting and
a national unity government were possible through political
consensus.

The UCPN (Maoist) was committed to the early conclusion
of the peace process, including the constitution writing, he
said, adding his party was in favour of forming the national
consensus government.

He underlined that economic development of the country
was possible only after the conclusion of the 2006 peace
process and drafting of the constitution.
