The new US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Michele Sison met her Lankan counterpart Jaliya Wickramasuriya in Washington.
Washington: The new US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Michele Sison met her Lankan counterpart Jaliya Wickramasuriya in Washington, during which the two decided to work together for taking the relationship to the next level.
Both the diplomats agreed upon the importance of taking the US-Lankan relations to the next level thorough strong bilateral relations enhanced by economic and diplomatic initiatives, the Sri Lankan Embassy here said.
They also reflected on the current state of US-Sri Lanka relations, noting that they have remained warm and cordial for the last 63 years.
Wickramasuriya updated the new US envoy on the recent economic and political developments in Sri Lanka, including on the post-conflict reconciliation process.
Wickramasuriya, according the press statement, explained the rehabilitation, re-integration, re-construction, and resettlement activities taking place in Sri Lanka.
Sison was sworn in as the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka at a ceremony on Monday at the State Department.
