Next SAARC Summit to be held in Male in 2011

The 17th SAARC Summit will be held in Maldives` capital Male next year, Bhutanese Prime Minister Jigme Y Thinley announced here today.

Thimphu: The 17th SAARC Summit will be
held in Maldives` capital Male next year, Bhutanese Prime
Minister Jigme Y Thinley announced here today.

Thinley stated this on the concluding day of the two-
day 16th Summit of the eight-nation bloc, comprising India,
Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan
and Maldives.

"The leaders welcomed the offer of the Government of
Maldives to host the 17th Summit of the Heads of State or
Government of the South Asian Association for Regional
Cooperation (SAARC) in 2011," said the `Thimphu Silver Jubilee
Declaration` issued at the end of the Summit of the grouping
formed in 1985.

Inviting the delegates to his country for the Summit,
President of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed said he was looking
forward to welcoming the regional leaders in his country next
year.
