Kathmandu: Nepal`s Maoist supreme Prachanda on Sunday denied that his party is extending any support to the Naxalalites in India or providing arms to them, saying earlier "contacts do not continue at present".
Delinking the Nepalese Maoists from the Indian Maoists, the former prime minister said, "We had personal contacts with them during the decade long People`s War, which does not continue at present."

There are no arms and training exchanges taking place between the two, he said.

He also dismissed media reports that the Nepalese Maoists had supplied weapons to the Indian Maoists.

Earlier, a media report on November 3 had claimed quoting Nepalese Maoists that they are extending "full support and cooperation" to the Naxalites in India.

Admitting that exchanges exist between the Maoists and the Naxals in India, a senior Standing Committee member of the UCPN-M CP Gajurel was quoted by Rajdhani daily as saying in the media report, "We have extended our full support and cooperation to the Indian Maoists, who are launching armed revolt."

Gajurel, however, did not elaborate on what type of support they have extended to the Naxals.
