Dhaka: A female worker died and scores of others fell sick after drinking water at their factory in Bangladesh Saturday.

"We have come to know that a female worker died and some 100 workers were treated at various hospitals after the incident," Xinhua quoted a police official as saying. The garment factory is located in Gazipur on the outskirts of Dhaka.

"The workers of Masstrade International Garments were sickened at their factory after drinking water," he said.

Most of the workers suffered from vomiting tendency while some of them complained of upset stomach. The cause of the incident was not known immediately.

Almost all the sickened workers are out of danger and many have left hospitals, a police official said. "We have collected water samples and sent them for laboratory test to know the causes of the contamination," he added.

Some 300 workers of a garment factory in Gazipur were hospitalised as they fell sick after drinking contaminated water in June last year.
