Islamabad: A woman pilot of the Pakistan Air
Force was injured when her plane crashed in the country`s
Punjab province and a villager died and two others were
injured while they were trying to put out a fire caused by the
accident.
Flying Officer Nida was injured in the crash in Bhakkar
district, Dawn newspaper reported on Tuesday.
The Chinese-made F-7 jet crashed yesterday due to a
technical malfunction, PAF said, adding that the aircraft was
on a "routine operational training mission."
The Air Headquarters ordered a board of inquiry to
determine the exact cause of the accident.
The F-7, which is based on the Russian MiG-21 design of
the 1960s, forms the backbone of the PAF. Pakistan is
currently the largest foreign operator of the F-7 though the
PAF intends to phase out the ageing jet by 2015.
