`Pak Army, CIA helping in fight against al Qaeda`

US has praised the operation, with a White House spokesman calling it an example of partnership between the two countries.



Islamabad: Pakistani Army and America`s CIA
are cooperating with each other in the fight against al Qaeda
and supporters of the terror network, a top military official
has said.

In the past also, successful operation against terrorists
had been conducted with the help of the CIA, Pakistan`s
military spokesman Major General Athar Abbas said in a
recorded video message.

There is complete cooperation between the Pakistani Army
and CIA in taking action against al Qaeda and its supporters,
he said.

On Monday, Pakistani Army had announced it had arrested a
senior al Qaeda leader believed to have been responsible for
plotting attacks on the United States, Europe and Australia.

Younis al-Mauritani was nabbed from the suburbs of Quetta
along with two other high-ranking al Qaeda operatives after
the US and the Pakistani spy agencies joined forces, according
to the Pakistan Army.

The two other militants were identified by the Army as
Abdul Ghaffar al-Shami and Messara al-Shami.

The United States also praised the operation, with a
White House spokesman calling it an example of partnership
between the two countries.

Maj Gen Abbas said the Army had been following Younis
al-Mauritani since October last year and he was captured in
collaboration with the CIA.
