Islamabad: Pakistani authorities have
arrested five Indian fishermen and seized two boats for
alleged illegal fishing in the country`s exclusive economic
zone.

The Maritime Security Agency (MSA) apprehended the
fishermen yesterday, saying that they were found about 45
nautical miles inside Pakistani waters at a spot 73 nautical
miles south of the port city of Karachi.

The fishermen are being interrogated by security agencies
to establish their exact identity and "intent for operating in
(Pakistani) waters," the MSA said in a statement.

It contended that Indian fishermen "continue to intrude
into Pakistan`s marine rich Indus Delta region to capture high
quality fish products."

The MSA will continue all-out efforts to safeguard
Pakistan`s maritime interests as mandated by the government,
the statement said.
