Lahore: A court has directed the Foreign Ministry to write to Bangladeshi authorities for the recovery of a Pakistani woman's minor daughter who was allegedly taken away by her husband without her permission.

The Lahore High Court yesterday expressed its dismay over non-compliance with its previous orders in the same case and observed that the government should wind up the Foreign Ministry if its officials were not willing to deliver.

A woman named Kausar, a resident of Lahore, had filed the petition in which she said she had married Aminul Haq, a citizen of Bangladesh, in 2006.

After some years, their relations became strained and Haq secretly flew to Bangladesh with their four-year-old daughter Shabnam, she said.

Kausar said she had written many letters to Pakistani and Bangladeshi authorities for the recovery of her daughter but had received no response.

She said the authorities in Dhaka asked her to get an official communication from Pakistani authorities in this regard.

She requested the High Court to order the Foreign Ministry to take steps for the recovery of her daughter through diplomatic channels and under the law as she was the natural guardian of the girl.

The court directed the Foreign Ministry's counsel to submit a compliance report on the issue at the next hearing on June 04.
