Pak court asks judges to probe rape cases in Punjab

A Pakistani court has taken notice of six incidents of rape and gang-rape in Punjab, including four in the provincial capital of Lahore, and tasked judges to launch a probe.

Lahore: A Pakistani court has taken notice of six incidents of rape and gang-rape in Punjab, including four in the provincial capital of Lahore, and tasked judges to launch a probe.

In two incidents, policemen and Federal Investigation Agency personnel were allegedly involved in gang-rape.

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umer Ata Bandial yesterday took notice of the incidents on the basis of newspaper reports about the rapes.

In one incident, a professor of Government College University of Lahore allegedly raped the sister of a colleague.

The Chief Justice directed the Lahore district and sessions judge to look into the matter and submit a detailed report on steps taken by police and the investigation of the case.

The district and sessions judge was also directed to submit reports on the gang-rape of a woman in Lahore`s Nawan Kot area by three men, the gang-rape and murder of a pregnant woman in Ghaziabad and the gang-rape of a university student by officials of the FIA in a hotel at Liberty Market.

The Chief Justice directed a district and sessions judge in Multan to thoroughly probe the involvement of policemen in the gang-rape of a girl there.

According to reports, some police officials intercepted a car, dragged out the girl and allegedly raped her in front of her family. The policemen were reportedly drunk at the time of the incident.

The Chief Justice further directed the district and sessions judge of Kasur to furnish a report within a week on the gang-rape of a newly-wed woman at gunpoint.
The victim was on her way home with her husband when the accused kidnapped the couple.

Three FIA officials allegedly gang-raped a university student at a hotel in Lahore’s Liberty Market. They lured her to the hotel by promising to arrange a job for her.
