Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday said Prime Minister Yousuf Raza
Gilani`s remarks criticising the military for failing to
detect Osama bin Laden`s presence in the country should be
expunged from parliamentary records.
He said the remarks by Gilani could be used as a
chargesheet against the armed forces.
"The statement given by the Prime Minister on the floor of
the House about the presence of the al-Qaeda chief can be used
as a chargesheet against our armed forces by the international
community," Khan said while speaking on a point of order in
the National Assembly or lower house of Parliament.
"The Prime Minister made his statement on record.
Therefore, he should withdraw his statement and it should be
expunged from the proceedings of the House," he said.
Gilani had strongly criticised the military in two
separate speeches on December 22.
Speaking in the National Assembly, he had questioned the
security establishment`s failure to detect bin Laden`s
presence in Pakistan for six years.
He had asked who had granted a visa to the al-Qaeda chief
to enter the country.
It later emerged that Gilani had spoken out against the
military after being angered by Defence Secretary Lt Gen
(retired) Khalid Naeem Lodhi`s failure to obey a directive.
Lodhi is considered to be very close to army chief Gen
Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
Several politicians considered close to the security
establishment have criticised Gilani`s remarks.
