New Delhi: With wrestling nations garnering support for reinclusion of the sport in 2020 Olympics, the WFI today said they are trying to get a resolution passed in the Parliament in support of the game apart from lauching online petitions on their website.
"I am in talks with the government. The entire Parliament shares our concern. We are discussing about bringing a resolution in the Parliament showcasing support for the game," Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh today said.
Wrestling playing nations such as Japan, Turkey, Iran have lauched protests against IOC executive board`s decision, taken two weeks ago, to drop wrestling from 2020 Olympics.
"FILA (wrestling`s international body) had become complacent thinking nothing would happen to wrestling. But now they are stirred up. I am fully confident that they will rescue the sport," the Samajwadi party MP said.
Brij Bhushan said the WFI has also spoken to Randhir Singh, India`s IOC member, to lobby for inclusion of Wrestling in the IOC`s list of 25 core sports.
"We have no problems in speaking with Randhir Singh to represent our case in the IOC. Infact, he is already in touch with us as well as the government over the issue," he said.
WFI is also planning to launch a massive online petition campaign from the sport followers on their website to show popularity of Wrestling in India.
Meanwhile, the body is gearing itself for the upcoming Asian Wrestling Championship that is scheduled to take place from April 18 at the K D Jadhav Stadium here.
"Already 17 countries such as Japan, Korea, Uzbekistan, Iran have confirmed their entries. We are expecting more participations," general secretary Raj Singh WFI said.
