Islamabad: Pakistan has offered assistance to Japan in controlling the radioactivity emission from the stricken Fukushima power plant, which took place after an 8.9-magnitude earthquake, followed by tsunami, hit the northern part of the country on March 11.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Tehmina Janjua said that Pakistan has offered help to Japan.
However, she rebuffed media reports claiming that Japan has appealed to Pakistan to help control the radioactivity emission, and that a team of Pakistani nuclear scientists would soon leave for Japan.
“Any such request or appeal could only be made through International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in accordance with the Vienna Convention. And no country can directly appeal to any other country on this issue,” a newspaper quoted Janjua, as saying.
She said that Pakistan offered humanitarian help to Japan, and would surely support and consider any other appeal in line with international laws.
