Islamabad/Peshawar: Pakistani security forces captured five militants and seized arms and ammunition during search and clearance operations in the Waziristan tribal region and the Swat valley, the military said on Sunday.

Security forces apprehended two militants with arms and ammunition in Jandola sector of Waziristan.

Two more militants were captured during an operation in Razmak sector. Troops also cleared 15 militant-held compounds and recovered arms and ammunition during the operations.

Militants attacked two security check posts in Shakai sector with rockets and small arms though there were no reports of casualties.

Security forces "effectively responded" to these attacks, the military said.

In the Swat valley, security forces apprehended a militant and seized arms and ammunition during search and clearance operations at several places.

Two suspected militants also surrendered to security forces. A jirga or council in Mohmand tribal region handed over a wanted tribesman to authorities.

Tribal elders also held a meeting with the local administration at Ghalanai, the main town in the region.

Officials said the administration pressed the tribal elders to hand over other wanted persons in keeping with a commitment made to the authorities.
