Islamabad/Peshawar: Pakistani security
forces captured five militants and seized arms and ammunition
during search and clearance operations in the Waziristan
tribal region and the Swat valley, the military said on Sunday.
Security forces apprehended two militants with arms
and ammunition in Jandola sector of Waziristan.
Two more militants were captured during an operation
in Razmak sector. Troops also cleared 15 militant-held
compounds and recovered arms and ammunition during the
operations.
Militants attacked two security check posts in Shakai
sector with rockets and small arms though there were no
reports of casualties.
Security forces "effectively responded" to these
attacks, the military said.
In the Swat valley, security forces apprehended a
militant and seized arms and ammunition during search and
clearance operations at several places.
Two suspected militants also surrendered to security
forces. A jirga or council in Mohmand tribal region handed
over a wanted tribesman to authorities.
Tribal elders also held a meeting with the local
administration at Ghalanai, the main town in the region.
Officials said the administration pressed the tribal
elders to hand over other wanted persons in keeping with a
commitment made to the authorities.
