Islamabad: An Indian news channel used the photograph of a recently slain Pakistani legislator for a terror suspect, prompting Interior Minister Rehman Malik to seek an apology from India on Monday.
The news channel had used the photo of Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Manzar Imam, who was shot dead by Taliban gunmen in Karachi on January 17, in a report on suspects linked to the bomb attacks in the Indian city of Hyderabad.
It could not immediately be ascertained if the Indian channel had apologised for its mistake.
Speaking to reporters in Karachi, Malik demanded a formal apology from India for "implicating" Imam, a former member of the Sindh Assembly, in the bomb blasts in Hyderabad.
"I demand a formal apology from India. It has brought ill-repute to Pakistan. Provide us the proof for making such serious allegations," he said.
Malik said the slain legislator had "a positive record and was a gentleman".
Pakistanis angered by the mistaken use of Imam's image by the Indian news channel took to Twitter and Facebook to protest.
Imam was killed in a targeted attack on January 17. The banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan had claimed responsibility for the attack.
