Peshawar: A soldier was killed and another
injured when a roadside bomb exploded in the restive South
Waziristan tribal region of northwest Pakistan on Wednesday.

The blast occurred in Tiarza area of South Waziristan
tribal agency, a semi-autonomous region bordering Dera Ismail
Khan town in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, security sources
said.

The soldier who was killed and his injured colleague were
part of a foot patrol, they said.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The army had launched a massive ground offensive in South
Waziristan last year to flush Taliban militants out of the
region.

Security forces had claimed that they had cleared Tiarza
area of the Taliban, but the militants continue to target
troops in the region.
