Pak Taliban seek 2 days to decide venue for meeting with government

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) today asked for two days to decide the location of a meeting between its political council and the government committee.

Peshawar: The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) today asked for two days to decide the location of a meeting between its political council and the government committee.

The announcement came after the TTP peace talks committee contacted the council, coordinator of the banned group`s negotiating committee professor Ibrahim Khan said.

On April 23, government negotiators and Taliban intermediaries had agreed to form a sub-committee to look into reservations from both sides to carry forward the troubled peace talks.

This was decided at a joint meeting of the government negotiating team and the Pakistani Taliban`s intermediary committee.

The meeting was convened by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to look into the situation against the backdrop of TTP`s refusal to extend their 40-day ceasefire.

The government has already made it clear that it would not be possible to move ahead with talks in the absence of ceasefire.
After the talks formally began, the TTP had announced a one-month ceasefire on March 1 and then extended it for another 10 days.
The government has been trying to negotiate a peace deal with the banned outfit to find a solution to the decade-long insurgency that has claimed over 40,000 lives.
